New Bags!

010I know…I’m amazed too – no idea how I manage to find anytime with apple season in full swing!  But I saw the announcement for the new Team EtsyBABY challenge and I just had to find a way to make something fun to enter.

Here are the guidelines:

Our Theme For September:
Team EtsyBABY©  Halloween Challenge

Here are the following details to participate in the Challenge:
A.   A (new to your shop)  baby/toddler item that is Halloween inspired
B.  All Items should be listed by Sept. 12th ( 2 weeks for creative design!!)
C.  Include in the title listing : Team EtsyBABY Halloween Challenge.
D.  Add the following tags to the listing: "EBHalloween" and of course Team EtsyBABY
E.  A PUBLIC poll to vote for your favorite "Team EtsyBABY©  Halloween  Challenge" item will be available via our website (
http://shopetsybaby.com ) starting Sept. 14th   and the poll will close on the 30th .

So here’s what I came up with (well, I actually came up with two things…but can only enter one…)

011I started with a Moda Chic or Treat Fabric Charm Pack that I purchased from a Quiltsy Teammate, KarolsVintageart.  I had been making table runners with charm packs but decided that these charms would make excellent ‘Trick or Treat Bags!”  This is such a unique bag that no other child will have.  It will help parents check on their child with just a quick glance and extremely roomy to allow for lots of yummy treats!012Each side of each bag has a unique combination of 5” charm squares.   Once I had the 9-patches put together I added a strip of black fabric to the top.  019   To create a sturdier bag, I ironed fusible fleece onto the bag of the two sides of the bag.  Once the fleece was fused, I free motioned quilted the words ‘Trick or Treat’ to all four strips of black trim.  Simple black handles were added to the each bag.  015  The charm pack was a little short to make four nine-patches so I added a piece of hand-dyed purple fabric (middle patch) and  solid black piece (shown below).  017    On this particular bag I also free motion quilted the word boo in the bottom black charm square.

This patchwork Trick or Treat bag will become an heirloom to be passed on for generations!

Both bags measure approximately 14” x 13” x 3.5” with two 20.5” straps.  Black on black commercial fabric lines each bag as well.
