Bonus Block! Home Sweet Home Quilt Along – accuquilt home

008Happy Thursday everyone!  Today I’m bringing to you the very first BONUS block for the Home Sweet Home Quilt Along.  I plan on posting at least four of these through the remainder of the Quilt Along so if you want – you’ll be able to have a 20 block sampler.  Before you get all in a panic that you don’t have an accuquilt GO! or this particular home die, anyone that wants to send me pre-fused fabrics to the dimensions specified below with a return address I’ll be happy to cut your shapes for you.  OR if you live near me - come on over and try it out for yourself!

Fabric Requirements:

Background

1 – 12.5” x 12.5”

***put fusible on these fabrics before cutting them***

House

2 – 8.5” x 6” (of course I used pinks)

Trees

7 – 6.25” x 3” (I used different shades of green and even a pink)

Tree Trunks

7 – 2” x 1.5” trunk fabrics

Sun

1 – 3” x 1.5”

4 – 1” x 1”

Background

053The first step – cut out your background fabric.  Set Aside.

The House and Trees

052For this block we’re going to be using the ‘home’ die exclusive to Stacy Michell from accuquilt GO!  2012-02-20Cut out a fusible (I prefer Heat n Bond for this situation) a 1/4” less than the dimensions given above for the house, tree, stumps, and sun fabrics.  Fuse them to the corresponding fabric BEFORE you put them through your accuquilt GO!  Just follow the cutter instructions to put your fused fabrics through.  You’ll be getting a few hearts with your house pieces and you can also use some of the excess scraps to make a couple of extra circles too.  These will be used to accent your house.  002Since we are creating two houses – I just swapped the roofs for each print to create some contrast.   003      When I first started putting this block together I only had two houses, three trees and the sun.  With the size block we’re doing and the size of the dies it definitely needed more.007I feel that two house, seven trees and a sun are about right for my block.  You can decide to do less or more – completely up to you.  Once you have decided on your final layout – fuse your pieces to your block.  009

To finish it off – stitch around each edge of your house and trees.

If you would like me to cut your pieces for this block please email me at:  lapaceksorchard {at} gmail {dot} com for my address!

I am in love with that house die and must have it soon. Your background fabric looks familiar.

What fun. I wish I had known about this earlier, as I would have gladly included it in an email update that I just sent out to my list of Quilters with Accuquilt (http://www.sewcalgal.blogspot.com/p/bloggers-with-tools.html) to give a shout out.
