An Interview with Nicole from MyPoplin
A good friend of mine recently began a business of her own MyPoplin. I’m happy to share with you some of her background, dreams and ambitions:
Tell me a little bit about your background in arts and crafts.
When did you first start creating things?
About 8 months ago when my second son was born I decided to find a hobby. I have never really had a hobby and felt like it was time to have something just for me, something I could enjoy doing and be proud of.
Nicole’s Sons – Paceler & Trexen
What were the first things you created? and how did your creativity progress from there?
My mom has always been a sewer and when I was pregnant with my first son I had a difficult time finding cute and trendy baby items. So when trying to decide on a hobby sewing jumped out at me as something I could do not only for myself but my friends as well. I had never sewn or really crafted before so I started at square one with a simple bib pattern. Since then I have become more comfortable sewing and creating. Now I make bibs, burp cloths, blankets, diaper clutches, nursing covers and perfect pouches.
Is this your only business or do you do other things as well?
This is not my only business. I also work full-time at Heartland Community Church in Sun Prairie, WI as the Children's & Family Ministry Director. I have two little boys as well, 21 months and 8 months.
Do you still dream about making other things? If so, what?
Yes, I am always thinking about other fun, trendy baby items I could make. I recently started making the "perfect pouches" for pacifiers, keys, cell phones, etc. and would love to make cute changing pads, more fabric flowers for a variety of items and maybe some car seats straps or pacifier clips.
How did you come up with your shop name?
I wanted a simple name that was cute but a bit uncommon. I spent a lot of time searching words related to fabric, sewing, trendy, etc. I came across Poplin, which is a type of fabric, and thought it was perfect! It them turned into mypoplin because this is MY hobby and fun outlet.
What are your favorite shops on etsy? Why do you like them?
The Apple- I love all jewelry and vibrant colors
Memory Wire Bracelet – Peonies in Bloom from theApple
Nise's Niche- It is my mom's shop and I love all her bags & purses
iliakids- They have the cutest little girl dresses, hopefully I will have a girl someday to put them on!
How did you hear about Etsy?
Friends and family members have shopped on Etsy for quite some time. I started buying items and really loved it so when I began crafting Etsy was the perfect place for me.
What is your favorite Apple?
Fuji
Favorite Movie?
Christmas Vacation & Pretty Woman
Favorite Book?
Crazy Love
Favorite Color?
Pink
