Meet Our Second Guest Judge this Week – Sara of Spongetta
One of our regular judges will be on vacation for this vote so I have managed to recruit an second ‘Guest’ Judge for the Stars Over America Challenge.
I am happy to introduce you all to Sara of Spongetta. Here are a few things Sara shared with me about her sewing experience:
Simple Pleasures Lap Quilt – Version 1
I grew up sewing. I remember, probably age 7, sitting on the floor under my mom's Singer, making a little pleated skirt for Barbie. A home Ec project Senior year of high school was a crazy quilt. Years later SUNY College granted me a BS in clothing and textile design. Loved garment construction, flat pattern design, draping, tailoring class. This came in handy when my Lord Steven and I wished to visit the Shire of Sterling one mid-summer's day. Now, more years later, I used quilting as a way to keep busy and teach sewing while my husband went back to school. And I'm hooked. I love to combine the colors and use geometry and algebra to figure out if I've got enough of this piece or that, combined with another, to make the size I want.
Kaleidoscope Lap Quilt - Pinks and Browns
Sometimes, when sorting fabrics, a group of a certain color match only each other and just demand to be combined. I tend to make quilts, bigger than lap, smaller than twin - just the right size for me to play with color and design, but not get bored. Just the right size for the end user to cuddle and keep warm, but not too bulky. I call them bed toppers. Etsy expert, Spongetta, suggests smaller items (totes, placemats) for more and faster sales, but (I'm still working full time) I gotta do what my muse demands with the sewing time that I have.
Thanks Sara for taking the time to be a judge this week! I’m so excited to see what everyone comes up with!
