Mug Rug Swap with the Quilting Gallery
Because I didn’t have enough to do with everything going on I decided to join in on this fun-tastic Mug Rug Swap that was organized by the Quilting Gallery. Swap Guidelines:
For this swap, you will make TWO Mug Rugs that finish at approximately 10″x6″ (or 9.5″/10.5″ x 6.5″). Your Mug Rugs do not have to match or even coordinate. Your finished Mug Rugs must be made with 100% cotton, quilted, and bound securely (no zig zag edges!). You can include a small label on the back if you wish.
This swap was inspired by Ryan Walsh’s mug rug tutorial. You can use Ryan’s tutorial if you like, but you don’t have to. You can piece, appliquĂ© or embroider your Mug Rugs, as long as they are washable.
These are the two mug rugs I made up for my ‘partner’. I used some hand-dyed fabric and beige leaf printed fabric to create the flying geese blocks. I used a golden orange commercial print for the border and bindings.
I used insul-bright insulation for my batting so it's an extra-protective rug perfect for a super hot cup o’ joe!

I had a lot of fun with this little project and have even made some more mug rugs that I plan on debuting at the Fall in Love with Handmade Trunk Show at Glitter Workshop this coming Sunday, February 6th from 10-4!
