Barn Quilts - A Closer Look, Part 3
Let’s take a look at a few more of the beautiful creations inspired by the Barn Quilt Project QUILTING Challenge.
Quilter: I’m Feelin’ Crafty
Project Quilting- Week 4- Barn Quilts- front
Project Quilting- Week 4- Barn Quilts
26x26
Seattle, WA
I was drawn to the traditional quilt patterns in the Barn Quilts, so I decided to go with a traditional pattern from the book Color and Quilt. I also added some hand dyed fabric for the circle pieces.
I started with a red center circle, but after it was all done, it was decided by my husband and I that red just didn't work, so I changed it to the green middle.
I also used extras from the front fabrics to design the back!
I blogged about it in more detail here.
Quilter: For Quilts Sake
Early Morning Nine Patch
"Early Morning Nine Patch"
Made by Pam Geisel of For Quilts Sake in Yellow Springs, Ohio, Feb. 2012 for Project Quilting Season 3, Challenge 4, Barn Quilt.
44" x 19”
My creative process and how I made it:
I decided to create a landscape with a barn that had a quilt square on it and the quilt square on the barn would be a reflection of the land and the sky around it. The quilt square is a 9-patch and there are 5 other 9-patches, 4 in the sky and 1 in the grass.
Many more details on how I made this at:

Heaven and Earth
I quilt in Cape Girardeau MO and call this heaven and earth, it is a16 x 16 scrappy quilt based on sky and earth colors I recently seen while cruising the Caribbean and the returning to MO. Thanks for your help posting this,
I have always been in awe of barn quilts, and would like to make some as wall hangings or as part of a quilt for my home. This was a good chance to try something I want to do again. Plus, like I said we went from sunny 80 degree blue skies nag green grass to 20 degree Midwest winter in a matter of hours, this was just a way for me to keep some of those warm feelings close by using as a table hot pad.

barn quilt
I am not going to finish in time for Project Quilting. I'd rather do it right and get the hand quilting the way I envision it than rush to meet the deadline.
When I saw the challenge and looked through some of the images, what stuck in my mind was the contrast between the gray weathered barns and the bright painted quilts. Having watched so many of the barns fall by the wayside, I was attracted to the hope I saw in the the quilts painted on them.
Barn Quilt.
St Louis, MO
approx 8 inches by 12 inches.
Pieced and hand quilted (or it will be when it is finished.)
