Project Quilting - Shoofly

First, a little about my philosophy of Project Quilting. Unlike the designers on Project Runway, we all have lives to live. Creativity and thinking outside the box are far more important than an elaborate project.

Most of us have huge stashes of fabric. Budget limitations are designed to encourage you to take a fresh look at your stash and use it.

So, we're ready for the first challenge. I thought we'd start simple with one of my all-time favorite traditional blocks as a theme. Here are the rules:

1. The shoofly block is your inspiration. Feel free to interpret it in any way you wish. If you put "shoofly block" into a search engine, many examples can be found. You'll succeed if you find a new way of looking at this block. Remember, just because it's a traditional block doesn't mean your quilt needs to be tradtional

2. Maximum size is 36 inches by 48 inches.

3. Budget is $10. Thread and batting and anything you currently have in your stash do not count against your budget.

4. You must use at least one
striped fabric.

POST your entries with a description of your creative process by noon on Sunday, April 18, to this flickr group – Project QUILTING with KimsCraftyApple: http://www.flickr.com/groups/1401824@N21/
OR email a picture/description of your completed project to lapaceksorchard@gmail.com with PROJECT QUILTING in the subject line.

Let the fun begin...........

does the striped fabric have to be in the block itself or just somewhere in the quilt? i.e., border

Sew Savvy - I notified my MIL of your question and since she's in charge of the challenge I'll let her respond. An answer should be up later today.

Is there a minimum size?

I'm going to give it a try! The stripes will be trouble, as I don't seem to have many stripes in my stash. Funny, I never realized that I don't use many stripes.

Ooh, I like this challenge - I don't think I'm going to have time in the Easter holidays to join in this week but will join in the next challenge once the kids are back at school.
