Home Sweet Home – Hexagon Trees
I went over where I learned about English Paper Piecing on my post for the Hexagon Forest Sashing Tutorial. These are even easier since you don’t even sew the hexagons together!
It’s free to sign up to be a Craftsy Member and the Block of the Month Program is also free. I’m going to recommend that you watch Amy’s tutorial to see how to make these hexagon’s. (PS. when you become a member be sure to follow me so you can see my projects and blocks as I go!)
Cutting Instructions:
1 – 12.5” x 3.5” Strip
3 – 3.5” squares of coordinating fabrics (I used one that was a scrap of a pieced block)
3 – 2” x 1” ‘trunks’ that will be fused to your main fabric (I put the fusible on my fabric before I cut it – seems to be easier).
3 – 1.25” Hexagon Templates
Piecing Instructions:
Here you can see my 3 templates and my 3 scraps of fabrics.
I used Amy’s Instructions to created three hexagons.
I starched and iron my hexagons really well before I snipped my basting stitches and pulled out the template.
Before I fused the trunk pieces on I placed all my pieces on the strip to make sure the trees looked nice. Then, I fused the trunks. Using a bit of washable stick glue I tentatively glued the hexagons in place. Once they were placed down, I did a blanket stitched around them to hold them in place.
Here you see my Hexagon Trees sashing between House on the Bay – Block 3 and Scrappy Trees – Block 9.

What a cute little hexie tree! I have recently started making hexagons but have no real plan for them. I think these are so cute, I might have to find a way to incorporate some of these little guys into whatever hexie project I end up making.
